Mimi's Mini Pies
Mimi's Mini Pies actually started about 10 years ago but only became a business last year. For many years, I have hosted Thanksgiving at my home and was in charge of all the desserts. I started creating mini versions of my apple crumble pie which was my Mom's favorite of my desserts.
For the last several years, my Mom (Mimi), my sister, and my husband would rave about these mini pies and repeatedly tell me that I needed to sell them. I had no idea how to do that so I would ignore their requests. Two years ago, my sister was really "encouraging" me to sell my pies so I made a deal with her. I agreed to try and "when it failed" she was no longer allowed to bug me about it. She agreed, and so true to my word, I reached out to Dorothy Lane Market to see if they ever buy desserts from outside sources. As expected, they said no but if it was especially unique, they would at least look at it. I told them I thought it was pretty unique - they told me to drop off a sample the following Saturday - which I did but the gentlemen I was supposed to meet was not there yet, They took the sample and said he would get back to me. A very short time later, my cell phone rang and it was the gentleman from DLM. He simply said "DLM would LOVE to sell these pies. When can you come back in to discuss this more in detail?" ....and that is the start of Mimi's Mini Pies!
Since I had no idea how to start and run a business, I was talking it over with a co-worker and she mentioned that the organization SCORE might be able to help. I filled out the application and got matched with Charles Anderson.
Mr. Charles Anderson has been a tremendous help to me in navigating through this process and has given me the confidence to become a business owner. He continues to work with me on my business and with Mr. Anderson's guidance, I can actually see myself owning and running a profitable business.
